Ratana is a Pali word meaning a precious jewel. Here, Ratana applis to the Buddha, Dhamma and the Sangha. In Etymology, the syllable Ra means to attract, Ta means to cross and Na means to lead, Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha are collectively called Ratana because they passes virtues that attract the minds of the wise, act as means to cross the ocean of SamSara and the lead the heavens and Nibbana those who seek refuge in them.
